First off, I understand that it is the changing of the seasons and I recognize my normal snottiness from that. I am on allergy medications due to the typical severity of my symptoms but this is about this consistent mucus build up at the back of my throat. Ever since my surgery in January 2021 I have noticed that it feels like thick gunk at the back of my throat when I swallow. It can hinder eating because it makes me feel a bit nauseous and it makes me even less hungry. When I clear my throat I feel it move a bit but it never truly goes away. Even when my allergy meds are full blast and everything is dried out that mucus is still sitting at the back of my throat. I have told my surgeon about it and she just told me to gargle saltwater...which does not help. She also said to take Benadryl, which does not help. Has anyone else had this problem? How do you get past it? What even is it? It's making it really difficult for me to eat some days. I drink more than enough Water and follow all of my dietary guidelines but it's still there. I use a nasal rinse everyday as well. I've tried coughing it up, spitting, hacking...everything. It's led to so much frothing! I am miserable and would appreciate any advice since my doctors are dominantly just shrugging their shoulders and telling me to deal with it.

I have it as well, even in the middle of the night I keep trying to bring it up. Sometimes I am able to get it up, but it sounds disgusting while I am trying to do it, but whether some comes up or not some always remains. If I sneeze I have to really make sure nose and mouth totally covered as some comes out then.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
