Post-op Pian?

Hello all -

I am reading how most people are experiencing severe pain post-op (at least for the first night). I am wondering why pain meds are not used in the hospital like they do for other surgeries? Is it not permitted for VSG?

Hi 10 days post op and they do give you pain medicine at the hospital I was at but in between getting the pain meds I would get super nauseous too especially since you don’t eat anything . The incision pain made it hard to walk as well. I think everyone is different but my first week was brutal. The pain meds I got sent home with upset my stomach so bad I was up all night with stomach pains. I hope it’s way easier for you , some go through it all just great and hardly pain.

Unlike others, I had almost no pain after surgery. This was true when I had the lap band installed, had the lap band removed and then had the RNY. I was offered pain meds and really didn't need them.

I had very little pain after surgery, other than gas pain, which isn't really alleviated by pain meds. I was sent home with a prescription for Vicodin, but I didn't need it. I didn't even need to take Tylenol. They did say that they recommend minimizing the amount of pain medication you take because it can cause constipation, but they also said if you are in a lot of pain, you should take it and not let your pain get out of control.

actually, most of us DON'T have much pain after these surgeries. I had almost none. I had a morphine pump in the hospital which I felt I didn't really need, but the nurses made me use it since they wanted me to get up and wal a lot. I was sent home with pain killers, but I don't think I ever opened them.
