Gerd

I had the Gastric Sleeve in 2015 and now my Gerd is alot worse. My surgeon told me last year I could convert to the bypass. I said I was going to think about it. I go for my follow up Monday and I am not sure what to do. Has anyone converted from sleeve to bypass and felt better? Is the recovery easier or the same? My diet is a mess because I am eating things to help the acid that comes up my thoat. I don't know what to do. The medication has side effects and Gerd can cause cancer. Any opinions are appreciated.

I had my sleeve revised to an RnY last October. It took several months for the sore throat to heal, but it's much better now. Like you, I was concerned about the long-term use of PPIs. I thought the r

Okay, I don't know you or him. However, if a doctor blamed me for my GERD? I fire his butt, write a bad review and move on to somebody else. GERD is not uncommon. Don't be a victim. Find someone new.

Hello Lisa,
I had a gastric sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and also had severe Acid reflux / Gerd. I was sick six out of every seven days on average.
I tried behavior modifications and several medications but they only worked for a short time.
I became more and more concerned about Esophageal cancer so I finally had RnY revision surgery January 30, 2019 (about eight weeks ago).
Since then I have had essentially no Acid reflux. I am still adjusting to the new diet regimen and yes it seems a little more restricting than my experience with the sleeve but I am progressing nicely and believe I made the correct decision.
So I say do it. You won’t regret it and you’ll probably loose more weight.

I have always had GERD and am getting the surgery in the spring. I would rather get the sleeve but now I am rethinging it based on this thread. Any advice??

Just hit my one year post op rny. Before I had severe gerd and had two scopes preop with cellular changes. Post op I haven’t taken any meds in 9 months and feel fantastic. Getting my hiatal hernia fixed was probably what fixed it but all is fantastic now and although the first six months were very hard I am very glad I did it and wish I would have done it sooner. Quality of life is so much better and I feel like I’m in my 20’s again and in shape. Oh yeah I lost 120 pounds as well. ;)

OMG how inspiring! I am worried about recovery time. I have a baby and a 2 yr old and would only be able to take 1 1/2 weeks off of work. but I want it soooo bad and cant wait. You think that is feasible?
