I had the Gastric Sleeve in 2015 and now my Gerd is alot worse. My surgeon told me last year I could convert to the bypass. I said I was going to think about it. I go for my follow up Monday and I am not sure what to do. Has anyone converted from sleeve to bypass and felt better? Is the recovery easier or the same? My diet is a mess because I am eating things to help the acid that comes up my thoat. I don't know what to do. The medication has side effects and Gerd can cause cancer. Any opinions are appreciated.

They found something on my upper GI series. It looks like a half filled balloon above my stomach. Any idea what it could be?

The nurse called my sleeve has a balloon at the end. Has anyone heard of this? I am going April 30 for an Endoscopy.

I did come across something like that when I was researching everything WLS related before my surgery. It was someone that had RNY though and the esophagus was ballooned at the pouch because of a stricture or stoma with too small of an opening and the person forced food down.

I don't recall how they fixed it, I just remember seeing the pictures when looking for diagrams of the different procedures. If your sleeve is damaged, they will most likely want to bypass it.

My surgeon actually said I had something like this that didn’t show up on any scans or tests preop/in the year and a half between surgeries. He said there was some big mass/lump type thing right above or below my esophagus. I forget as it was a drain removal appointment so I was focused on that.

I am glad you don't have any Gerd. I am going for an Endo on the 30th to get a better look at it.

Lisa did you have an upper GI or endoscopy before your procedure, and it wasn’t there?

I had an Endoscopy prior. My surgeon thinks that the sleeve is larger on one end but he wants to get a better look. I have been dealing with another issue but I didn't think it was related. When I turn the wrong way something sticks out of my stomach. It is extremely painful and I have to push it back. I had the feeling everytime I threw up but now it is just when I move. We will see after the 30th

Sounds like a esophageal dilatation but it could also be, like you said, you might have a tapered sleeve instead of one diameter all through. I think trust your surgeons judgement on this, they do this for a living and 99% are perfectly wonderful dudes and dudettes.?

I was ready to leave him. He was such a jerk at my last visit. If he can fix it I will be very grateful.

I read my report from my GI and it's an incomplete staple line that created a pouch. How will they fix it?

I think I remember reading the overall rate is 95% but the 3 surgeons at cedars have a 90% rate so I did appreciate getting a statistic that is more applicable for me since I’m in his specific hands.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it but I did have one episode where I coughed up a little bit of 10 capsules I swallowed and that was disgusting. It takes about an hour for me to get them down so I probably swallowed them too fast. I’m supposed to open them all but I just can’t. I still burp and hiccup but apart from that one episode haven’t felt or tasted any acid and I haven’t vomited at all in almost 2 weeks post op. Only lost a few lbs but while I’m disappointed I remind myself I didn’t get it for weight loss and I can lose my steroid weight in the gym when I’m better.

Sorry for the repeat tale of coughing up medicine. I swear the days blur together and I can never remember what I’ve written here. I blame the obscenely low calories I’m on.

The doctor is converting my sleeve to the bypass and shave the pouch. Thank you for the support.
