One Week Cigarette Free!

For the first time in eight years, I am a NON-smoker! After I attended the initial seminar for WLS, I decided I had to quit cold turkey or else I knew my surgeon wouldn’t even consider me a candidate. I am in the very early stages of my weight loss journey and decided it was never to early to start preparing myself for gastric bypass. To be honest, it has been much easier than I anticipated and I should have done it years ago (or never started smoking in the first place?) but I am so, so terrified that I’ll give in to a craving and waste all my hard work. I’m even more terrified that I’ll have the surgery, and then go back to smoking afterwards and die from an ulcer? Are there any other former smokers who have struggled with this anxiety? Any tips or tricks?

  • No tips or tricks as I quit cold turkey in 1980. I washed the ash trays or tossed them out, with matches and lighters, too. One week later I had a craving, found a cig I'd forgotten about, took one dr

I quit nearly six months ago, which led me to the decision to pursue this surgery! While I realize you can never say never, I really don’t *want* to be a smoker. It also helps that I hate the smel

Haha wow! Small world indeed! I am going through Samaritan as well, but with Dr. Sanders.

How far along are you in the process? I’m having surgery on the 17th and have completed all my requirements.

How exciting!! I still have a long way to go, just started the process at the beginning of June. All of my appointments are scheduled for next week, except for endoscopy and the sleep study, which are booked out until September ??? I’m hoping something opens up before then because I’m super impatient lol

Oh man! The sleep appointment was booked so far out!!! Did you get put on their cancellation list? I did and ended up being able to go in a few weeks earlier.

I’ll send you a PM with my Facebook info if you want to keep in touch or have any questions. ? the staff at Samaritan Bariatric are great and you’re in good hands!
I quit 6 years ago. I decided to throw everything at it. So I went on Chantix to help with the physical addiction; Wellbutrin to help with the mental part; for the first couple weeks, I used an e-cig when I really had a craving; gum; mints; not drinking alcohol; etc. Good luck!
