Month By Month Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

I'm really curious, for the WLS vets among us, what was your weight loss month by month after surgery?

My doctor told gave me a number to look for on the scale, as a "what I can expect" and I was shocked. He said that it will come off quicker than I think it will. It made me wonder what other people's experiences were. I'm seeing a lot of one off threads with tremendous results (way to go, all!) and I know everyone is different but it's comforting to hear from those who've gone through it before.

The number he told me to expect is something that I've NEVER seen before as an adult so I have no idea what this is all going to look like on me!

I am at 5 weeks post op and have lost only 12 pounds. I am on antidepressents and maybe that makes me not lose very fast.

The average estimate is something like 60% of our excess weight (the difference between our pre-weight and our so-called ideal weight)

I've heard that, too. I'm always curious as to people's individual examples. :-)

Fischer et al., systematically analyze data from 123 sleeve gastrectomy studies involving 12,129 patients. The excessive weight loss in patients who had sleeve gastrectomy was 56.1% at 12 months post-surgery (Fischer et al., 2012).

The weight loss varies between 42% -78%.

In another study conducted by Gagner et al., the weight loss data from 130 doctors and 46,133 gastric sleeve surgeries were compared. The average, excessive weight loss at the end of the first year of gastric sleeve surgery was 59% (Gagner, Deitel, Erickson, & Crosby, 2013). Doctors are close to the value gotten by Fischer et al.

Realistically....the hard data puts average excess weight loss after sleeve....at about 55-60% at one year post surgery. And 60-70% at eighteen months to two years post surgery.

Then, by year three, many people will regain about 5-10%.

I was lucky i had a great first month 30 something pounds. followed by 8-10 pounds every month for the next 9 months after that.

June looks to to be my big slow down. i have been expecting it for the last few months. My body seems to have found a sweet spot and i think the last 20 pounds i want to lose are going to be a slow slog but i have hit every goal to this point and i haven't felt this good in more than a decade so at this point i just don't care if i need the next 6 months to get that last 20 off

The average weight loss is 60%, but if you are focused it can be more than that. I am considered to have lost 120% (100% to get to the top of normal BMI, but I am at a BMI of about 21).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
