Anyone with United health care how long did it take for you to get approved? How long was the entire process from initially asking about the surgery to actually getting the sleeve done

You can actually call your insurance to ask what they specifically require for approval. The only thing I really know is that they generally require a 6 month monitored diet and exercise plan. I don't know what their requirements are as far as BMI with co-morbidities or any other pre op requirement though. Hopefully someone can chime in that has used UHC for their surgery. I have UHC however my specific plan under my employer excludes bariatric surgery so I am self pay.

I have united healthcare choice plus ppo and I haven't found out my approval date as I am in the beginning stages but from what my insurance said they cover 90% of the expenses and that my doctor makes those decisions but that I should be approved as long as my bmi is 40 or higher. they said is could be 3 months to 6 months before that.

I have UHC. My plan uses Optum. I had to do a 6 month diet and a certain BMI . I had to use a COE. Optum will allow you to use prior month to count as the 6 months diet. I started in January and the surgeon submitted the paperwork a few weeks ago and I was approved within a week. I haven't scheduled the surgery yet. The process with very easy.

I have the same plan. I started mine in May. Just had the 2nd meeting with the nutritionist. My surgeon has a patient advocate, who walks you through the entire process and makes sure you have everything you need to be approved. UHC has been fairly easy to deal with.

Good luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
