TITANIUM STAPLES

I have a surgery 05/23/18 for sleeve . I am very nervous , I have allergies almost to anything from food to seasonal year round allergies.Does someone know of anybody being allergic to the titanium staples ? I know i sound weird but it is something that is bothering me ,like in worst case scenario what back up do they have instead of using the titanium staples ?

This is something you should speak to your surgeon about. I don’t know if they can test you for an allergy to titanium but it’s worth asking, especially if you are concerned.
I asked my surgeon the same question and he told me he’s never known of anyone who had allergy or rejection issues with the titanium material but that is limited to his patients.

Thank you for the reply, and yes I do have a list of questions before surgery.

The most common metal allergy is nickel, which is in sterling silver in different amounts. Titanium and stainless steel don't have any nickel in them as far as I know, they are considered hypoallergenic.

I have metal allergies (chromium and nickel) and they are severe. So had this discussion with my surgeon, one of the reasons titanium is used is that it’s not something many (anyone?) is allergic to and it’s not magnetic (you can get a mri with them).

Worth a conversation with the dr, but not typically a big concern

I have a plate and 12 screws in my upper right arm, due to a severe fracture that had to be surgically reduced. All titanium, I am also,a quite allergic person including nickel and other metals. Been in there since February 2010, not one bit of trouble.?
FYI,did you know Canadian nickels are magnetic, American are not. With the high amounts of their native nickel in the Precambrian Sheild, they can afford to make their 5 cent pieces of a purer metal.
