Flying after sleeve

Is it true that there is no flying for 6 months after you are sleeved? It’s on my list of questions next time I see the surgeon but a friend told me this and I’m curious.

  • I’m flying home (2hrs flight) 48hrs after mine, I maybe wouldn’t want to do long haul for a while though!

Yes, there’s a chance you’ll be able to cross your legs while sitting in coach and there’s an even greater chance you won’t encroach on your seatmates’ space.

  • Prolonged sitting (or laying), particularly in a confined space like an airplane, puts you at risk for a blood clot. Having surgery also puts you at risk for a clot, which is why we do things like tak

I believe it is 4-6 weeks depending on your surgeon but still get up every hour and pump your legs back and forth while seated.

Right and I think when flying home to where your doctor for aftercare is waiting is different than leaving the state or country for vacation. I think his no flying really is more like no vacations right after surgery.

I have flown quite a bit and taken 3 or 4 vacations since surgery 5 months ago, including a month in Florida. No issues with flying or having a normal vacation. I think the first one was maybe 8 weeks out. If you travel just have a good plan for food, both on the plane and when you arrive. I found I lost a lot of weight on vacation because I was so active.
