Help! Stuck in a rut!

It has been a very long month for me! I have only seen a 1 lb loss in the last month.. my hair is falling out and I am taking in between 80-100+grams of protein each day.. my caloric intake is around 800 and I am exercising 5-6 days a week, plus exceeding my 64oz of water intake daily.. something has got to give soon... my reflux is finally starting to get under control, but that is the only positive thing!!! What am I doing wrong??! Called my surgeon and they told me I am right on track... frustrated.. I measured myself today and I have only lost 22inches total since my surgery 4.5 months ago.. anyone have any advice or go thru the same thing as I am experiencing right now?

Surgery date: 11/29/17

SW: 324

CW: 261

GW: happy & healthy (ideally 175-185)

at what stage were you allowed to join the gym.

I got clearance to do walking after my week follow up. I got clearance to actually do cardio and weight lifting at my 6 week follow up

No such a time was specified. I know that the program wanted me to be exercising as soon as I got home from the hospital but I was feeling really sh1tty until last Sunday when I finally started feeling like myself. I finally felt like I wanted and desired physical activity yesterday. I hope this trend continues. The first 4 weeks post-op were absolute hell for me, probably worse than the pre-op liquid diet.

Only head to the gym if you physically feel like it. The key is for the initial gym experience to be a pleasant and comfortable. This is the angle that I am taking. I'll push myself a little bit further down the road.

I didn't get a lot of my energy levels back until I started eating soft foods. Even further than that, when I was able to get my protein in from food was when I felt 100%. I started working out at the gym at 4 weeks post op. I went 3 days a week and took it slow. Now I work out minimum of 5 days and I've gradually increased my intensity. I still have a protein snack before I work out every time.

@TootsR Matty is right. I wouldn't over do it at this point. If you want to walk around the block a few times or even walk slowly on the treadmill. I wouldn't do anything too extreme until your stomach is healed and you get the OK from the doctor.

Sounds like a good plan!

Some of us lose hair no matter how much protein we intake. It’s a process called telogen effluvium—

Like you I couldn’t possibly get in all my protein requirements without supplementation till well after a year post op, my restriction was too high.

Try switching your shake! If it’s whey isolate move to one with caesin or whey concentrate or a combination. Or try plant based protein. Just stay away from collagen or genepro.

Personally i don't think hitting the gym 7 days a week is the best thing when your running on 600 calories or so in the beginning, sure a light workout is fine but going crazy may slow things. For me i could stall myself out doing a steady hard gym regiment so i stopped doing it in the beginning . I stepped up my walking game, doing less couch time and even started doing pushups every morning, well push up as in "1", i can do 30 now easily even 3 or 4 sets do a few crunches and a few quick curls and my workout is done for the day along with 10,000 steps or so. I still hit the gym some but its always at the end of the day were it is easy to say your tired and not go, so at least i know i did something first thing in morning. I lost hair also seems to be slowing now according to my shower drain. Biggest thing that killed my loss is grazing, went all of march and didn't lose anything, stopped grazing and most carbs( slider foods) and seem to be dropping again. Funny i can only eat 5-6 bites of a protein and be stuffed, but i can eat a whole sleeve of crackers easily like i never had surgery and still want to eat.

There are plenty of people that do workout that frequently. The key is to do it smart and safe and listen to your body. I am going to do this under a physician and physical therapist's guidance. We're not meant to be sedentary and everything I read about confirms this.

Like I said, Beast mode! Keep up the positive attitude and hard work!

There is nothing wrong with working out with some intensity as long as your body can take it. The idea that working out is going to slow down your weight loss is rubbish (especially if we are talking about cardio). At the end of the day weight loss (with a few exceptions) is about operating at a calorie deficit (I've heard it described as eat less run more). Yes there is a point that can be overdoing it and you will see people here talk about "suvival mode," but don't worry most of us have the vestigial reserves to get us through even on a reduced calorie diet.
