What was for breakfast this morning?

  • Popular Post

After this fun thread from yesterday about lunches, I thought it would be interesting to see what people have for lunch.

I go through weeks on weeks of having nothing more than a shake, so I'm interested to see what others do.

Today, I had a Chobani plain greek yogurt with a tablespoon of chia seeds. That particular yogurt is low in carbs, which is good since I'm trying to limit mine. Adding in the Chia seeds gives it fiber, which helps keep me out of the various ohmahgawdI'msoconstipated threads. I let the chia seeds soak in for a few minutes so that they soften and taste better, and then a mix in a little water or tea to make it moist again (otherwise it turns to paste).

Edited by etc. etc. etc.

I had some coffee, which I'm not supposed to have for another six months or so, with milk, because we're out of half and half. Then, after waiting the obligatory half hour, I had two little Jimmy Dean

I’m very boring and only 3 weeks out so protein shake.. I can’t drink just plain but it seems to go down better with some Greek yogurt blended with some banana and orange. Just some type of fruit. I can finish almost half

My breakfast is usually coffee with some protein powder mixed in. While the coffee is brewing, I make a sort of paste with my vanilla protein powder and a little almond milk. Then when the coffee is ready I pour it in. It keeps me satisfied til my break time.

Aldi brand Greek yogurt. I'm cleared for eggs and toast, but it's just not sitting quite right with me yet. I might try peanut butter and toast next week.

Does anyone have an opinion on white vs. wheat toast? White sits with me better than wheat, but wheat is, well, not healthier, but less unhealthy.

I was not allowed peanut butter and toast on my plan during the weight loss stage. Your plan does not look like my plan. I'm three years out. Instructions may have changed.

Wheat toast is much better than white toast because it has a lower glycemic index. So why is this better?

When you eat refined sugar or refined carbs like white flower....the sugar hits your bloodstream really fast...and your pancreas reacts to the sugar spike by making a insulin spike. Unfortunately, the pancreas often will produce too much insulin in response to pure sugar....so it runs out of sugar to "neutralize" and then you have too much insulin...which creates a hunger spike and craving for sugar....and you end up in this nasty cycle of hunger/eat/hunger/eat.....that sabotages your diet and makes you feel kinda cruddy.

If you stick with low glycemic carbs that take longer to digest and have slower releasing sugars...you don't run into this as much and feel much less hungry. Go for whole grain carbs:)

My plan allowed peanut butter and whole grain toast in the soft solid foods stage...about a month after surgery.

Yes, my plan also allows peanut butter and toast starting at week 5. I think peanut butter may even have been allowed during the pureed stage, but I don't remember.

Until I'm on the general diet, I'm concerned mostly with which is easier on a healing stomach, white or wheat.

I had to restrain myself from finishing this so I could take a picture. God I love my bacon!
