Concerns with gaining

Recommended Posts

I'm very worried about my daughter . She had the sleeve revision from lap. She has only lost 25 lbs since January after losing 100 lbs and regaining 40 with lap. She eats very little at meals. I'm afraid she is eating slider foods and drinking too much alcohol

Has she been back to see her surgeon for follow-up appointments? They are very crucial to the progress. If you drink while eating, you can most certainly push food through the sleeve, and alcohol, well, that relaxes your stomach to the point where she can probably push things through due to the relaxation in the stomach caused by drinking.

The only advise that I have, because I've not been in this situation, nor do I know anyone who has, is that she start with her surgeon and for her to behest with him. I do believe that she can start the post-op diet from the beginning again to reset her stomach and to allow for weight loss again.

Best wishes to both of you.

Amy

We all have to learn how to make suggestions, but then stand back and let things happen as they will.

I'm surrounded by people that all constantly make wrong choices. But they are their own people, and other than helpful pointers, there is nothing more I can do.

Your daughter has gone through 2 surgeries. Hopefully she received the nutritional and psychological programs that most bariatric practices require.

Mention to her your concerns, write down any applicable phone numbers for her, but as long as she is over 18, there isn't much more you can do.

@seeme1954

not meaning to be harsh, spoken

with good intentions,

daughter maybe is eating frequently when

no one is around. chips, dip, Cookies etc.

also drinking empty calories from too

much alcohol. i agree, discussing the situation

"once" is fine. then don't bring up again.

you can bring a horse to Water, but you can't

make it drink.

good luck mom (daughter too!)

I agree with berry -- say something once then shut up and let her do her own thing. This is my advice to myself dealing with other to others dealing with me. More than once and its nagging. Sorry to be so blunt.

The other thing that I was told by surgeon if that revision patients lose way slower than a person who just got sleeve with no WLS prior

We do tend to lose slower, but that's just on average. Obviously there are tons of conversion stories where many reach their goal weight and then some, but they have to really put the work into it. I had surgery on 9/27 and I'm already down 15 pounds, so I don't consider that slow by any means, but I also want to lost 160 pounds, so that may partially be why I've done so well this soon.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
