So I just got a time for my surgery on May 22nd. 3:50PM!! I can't believe it's so late. I'm not very happy about that. I'm also kind of worried. There's no way I can go 16 hours without at least drinking something. I'll be completely parched. They must be crazy!

Did anyone else have a late surgery and survive?

It is not that hard. I did not check into the hospital until Noon, and I think my surgery was at like 2 pm or something.

I chugged water for like 3 hours before midnight the night before. Went to a midnight movie, slept late. Once you are at the hospital, so much is going on, you won't care about drinking. Plus they start and IV long before your surgery, you won't be thirsty.

Plus the though of aspirating on the table and choking or getting fluid in your lungs is deterrent enough not to drink.

My surgery was at 2:30 p.m. I was supposed to fast from midnight and drink only clear liquids. But since the surgery was so late, they said I could have a cracker with jam before 8 a.m. I didn't have to stop drinking until I was admitted, about two hours before surgery. It's worth asking!
