2 things: exercise and protein

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery in September of 2016. I have lost 44 pounds to date. I know many people have lost much more than this. I think the main problem is that I have not been very good about exercising. Is there anyone out there that began their exercise routine five or six months after surgery? I'm wondering if it is too late? I suppose it is never too late to begin exercising. Also, How much Protein do most of you eat in a day? I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough protein. Would increasing the protein help me lose more?

There is no time like the present to begin exercising. A good goal is 3-5 miles a day of walking (can break it up). This is a goal, I don't mean you have to be able to do it now. Work up to it.

I don't know how much Protein you are getting now, but make sure it is at least 70g a day. Keep the carbs at or under 65g during weight loss.

Good luck!

I started going to the gym about 5 weeks post-surgery. I've only hit my Protein goal a few times since my sleeve on Sept. 26th,and I think my muscle suffers more than anything. I've lost 70 lbs so far, but I've been religious with measuring my food and really trying not to over-eat. I don't think that increasing your protein will help with losing the weight, but it won't hurt. Are you keeping a food journal? I use MyFitnessPal and I average about 1200 cals/day.

We should make the distinction between muscle and fat weight. We don't want to lose muscle. Both exercise and eating enough Protein will help preserve the muscle. Sure, you will lose weight without eating protein.. but some of that weight will be lean muscle mass...

The more lean muscle you have, the more calories you burn per day..and the more you can eat while losing or during maintenance.

The more we can eat (within reason), the healthier we will be, because there will be more micronutrients available to us.

Not all nutrients are found in a pill. There are tons of tiny chemicals, some likely without names, that are helpful to us to have healthy bodies.

If you are stuck eating 800cal a day because more makes you gain.. you'll get half as much nutrition as someone that can eat 1600cal. You'll be malnourished and weak over the long run.

We might get away with low caloric consumption for the weight loss phase, but we need to increase our consumption during maintenance.

I feel like im losing more muscle than Fat. Ive been trying to intake at least 80g of Protien, but it seems hard to do without increasing the carbs. Im having a hard time with certain meats. I know I need to bump it up to 100g

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
