I am on mushies too-the other day my scale said I gained 4 lbs-but today back down 3- I was told to eat 3 very small meals plus protein- so I am trying keep myself on a schedule so I know when it is time to eat- I would keep a food journal if you do not do so- so that you can see the daily difference and what is working and what is not working- the hunger for me comes and goes-if you are doing Protein faithfully then I guess one normal meal would be ok, but eventually the goal is to eat 3 meals a day with no snacking. You may have some restiction without a fill-make sure you are getting all your nutrients. You need to eat to lose weight, the weight loss may plateau if you are not getting in enough calories. I haven't lost anything for almost two weeks-my dr said many people gain weight before their first fill.

I would advise you to talk to your doctor and/or nutritionist to get an idea on what you should be eating and drinking right now. I would also advise you to stay off the scale for the first few months after surgery if the scale weight is bothering you.

I'm in the same boat with you. I had surgery on 9/10 and lost 30 pounds prior to mushies. And now I'm stalled out. I eat 3 meals a day of protien. I have restriction though and can only manage to eat about 100-150 calories at a time. I'm on soft foods right now and can eat 2 egg whites at a time with a tablespoon of fat free ricotta cheese, anything more and I PB. And most of the time I don't finish that.

I even started working out thinking that would get me off of this plateau. So far I haven't budged. I'm just doing cardio, no weights yet.

My surgeon said to eat 3 meals a day and stay under 1000 calories. I can't even come close to 1000 calories. I usually end up around 300-400 calories for the day.

My first fill isn't until 10/25. So 26 days to go.

I'd say try to eat more through the day. Your body may be in "starvation mode" and may be trying to conserve all its calories. It doesn't SOUND right, but they always say if you eat your body will stop trying to conserve and start processing.

I think you need to contact your doctor or nutritionist for advice on this. You may be experiencing post-op swelling, which mimics a too-tight fill. My concern would be whether or not you are getting in sufficient amounts of fluids and Protein.

I'm doing really well when it comes to fluids. I'm up to 60 ounces a day, just 4 away from my target.

In the beginning I had a ton of post-op swelling. It took me about 20 minutes to get 1 tbsp of Water down. Now I don't feel a whole lot of restriction with fluids, as long as I slowly sip.

As far as PB I've only had 2 episodes of it. Once with a protien shake and once with the egg & ricotta. For some reason protien shakes seem to get frothy in my stomach and come right back up or go right through me within 5 minutes.

I have a support group meeting on Tuesday and my doc will be there. I'm going to ask him what he thinks about it. It's just crazy to think that I used to be able to eat 1800-2000 calories a day and now I'm struggling to get in less than half of that.

I had my surgery on Sept. 17, so i am only two weeks out and i don't seem to have any restriction at all. I know that this is somewhat normal, but i am so depressed about it. I am hungry all the time, hardly eating anything but still not losing anything! I can't wait to get a fill just to see if this darn thing works:)

Aim for at least 64g of Protein and your Water.. (I aim for at least 100 oz)

Every morning I've been eating that Weight Control oatmeal, making it with milk... leave it soupy while your on mushies and healing... its filling, combined protien count is 17g.... it keeps me REALLY full till lunch.

Like Wendell said.. consult your nutritionist or doc..... always smart...... in my case I was pretty much on my own because my doc is very easy.... and the nutrtionist and I don't agree on carbs...... so I go my own way... and focus on the Protein and water.. low carb comes naturally with this which is what works for me (and always has).

GOOD LUCK

bbgray: WELCOME TO BANDSTER HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you tell your doc at your first fill appointment! It wasn't until my 2nd fill that they promised I would start to be "clamped down" (I've had 4 pretty aggressive fills) and am holding my sweet spot for over a month now.

Yeah, I finally drank a protien shake and it stayed down. Myoplex EAS premade, on the expensive side, but I managed to stomach it.

I can't wait for my first fill. I noticed yesterday that my restriction dropped quite a bit.

It is quite common to gain weight once you move to mushies or solids. I gained 7 lbs in between my fills but took it off fairly quickly once I got restriction. You are in the healing phase right now so don't worry too much about it. Good luck.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
