Hello From St Louis

Recommended Posts

Hello Group,

I have not been banded yet. I am in the process of taking all the steps insurance requires of me. I have been reading this forum for over a year now. I love the information I have learned and I feel a great comfort in feeling very educated by what everyone has shared. I have been over weight my whole entire life, as well as my entire family minus 1 brother.. we have no idea what happend to him... lol. I am so excited for my surgery. I am going through the DePaul Health Center In St Louis. Has there been any one else going through them?? I just wanted to check and see what the over all opinion of the facility was.. Well, Thank you all and Congratulations on your achievments!

Jazz

Jazz did you ever have your surgery? I had surgery at DePaul in Dec 07.

What how long did the entire process take? I heard they wanted you to go on a 6 month diet? Is that true?

I did have to see a dr. for 6 months before my insurance would approve. I even lost 40 lbs and they still approved the surgery! The whole process took close to a year with the 6 month of dr visits.

I think I am having mine done at St. Alexis and I hope I can get mine done sometime this summer. I am a school teacher and I don't have that kind of time during the school year. I already have a long school year (last day June 26th!) and I want to be fully recovered by the middle of August! Good luck with the insurance!

hello ! I am starting this process also. I went to one meeting at Dr Eagon's office. He is affiliated with Barnes/Wash U. He comes highly recommended but his office does not seem to concerned to see you until you have seen all of the other requirements. I would like to talk to the Dr before I go to all of these other apts??

Just curious if anyone has used him and what they thought

No, it really doesn't bother me. I think it gives me a chance to think what I want to do. I have done everything and have been approved by the doctor. I am not waiting on the insurance answer. I hope to have the surgery soon! I have made the mental decision.:(

I am curious, if you don't mind. I am planning on looking into this surgery after I have my baby and am done nursing.....anyway, I don't have a Primary Care Physician, so I am looking for one, but, I am looking for one that does not look at this surgery in a bad way (you know some docs just don't understand). Thanks for your help!! Good luck with your surgery!!!

I do have a primary care physician but I never once said anything to them about my process. Actually - I still have not contacted them and I was banded on November 10th. I really like Dr Eagon and his staff! It was a 7 month journey for me but I am 6 weeks out and down 13 lbs which is the most weight I have lost in 6 weeks in 10 years.

good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
