Cold and cough what OTC?

Hate feeling sick but I need some OTC. Got my sleeve on 9/27 lost 50lbs so far and feeling great. Got sick 2 days ago but I'm freaking out as to what over the counter medication I could take. I called my doctor was told Tylenol but I need something for my throat. Can I take DayQuil or NyQuil? Suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

I also have a cold and was told to gargle with crest pro health antibacterial mouthwash. Also took the Tylenol cold meds. Finally feeling better.

I had a cold 4 days post op, so I called my surgeon. He said I could take anything with the following guidelines:

1. no pills (liquid only)

2. do not take anything with acetaminophen while taking the acetaminophen/codeine they prescribed me for pain. Take one or the other.

He suggested dayquil/nyquil (and stop the prescription painkiller)
