Venting to all that would understand me, I want to indulge in food (something good, not puree potatoes) and I can't. I had to put my first dog/down first pet ever down today, I loved him more days than I was mad at him. My bacon buddy, always gave him half a piece of what I was eating so I wouldn't eat the whole thing. Lightning is his name, 9 year old deaf great Dane. Putting him down was hard, never did that before. It was peaceful but tonight the house seems different. So many emotions and all I want to do is eat to comfort me. I know I can't. But to all that may understand what i am feeling and to all who read this to hear me vent. Thank u.

Well, if it's not normal then I'm crazy as a loon because every dog I've lost has left a hole in my heart and hurt like I lost my best friend. Bernie, Samson, Luke, and Mesa....my fur babies I've lost, ever loyal in my best and worst times. I am so sorry for your loss, but also so glad for you that you took a painful thing, recognized it for what it was and haven't just headed straight for food. As surely so many on this forum do, I totally understand your desire to turn to something to eat for comfort.

Hang in there, cry it out if you need to, exercise it out, do something kind for yourself, or ask someone else to do something kind for you. Just remember to keep food in the category where it belongs, just fuel for the body, and work through what you're feeling in a healthier way. Like the saying goes, that which doesn't kill us, can only make us stronger.

So sorry Hun, and I understand everything your saying and feel your pain. I had to put my Yorkie to sleep earlier this year. I'm 2 mo out of surgery and I realize how much I use to use food to bury my emotions. I finally got a new baby, Chinese crested puffball, and she's keeping me company in this new journey. Good luck to you and many ???????? thoughts. I drive a truck all over the US and I have very little emotional support except for this little furball!!

I have been through it many times (dogs and cats) this year I was able to give my cat Gems the gift of peace from cancer. Thankfully she was only sick 2 weeks and from diagnosis to peace 24 hours. Rainbow bridge always helps me.

As for comforting yourself without food, I highly recommend a guided meditation CD, a warm relaxing shower or bath and warm fuzzy pjs! The cleansing Water with the warm fuzzy pjs is like a big ???? hug.

The best medicine is rescuing another furbaby.

So sorry to hear of your loss, he was beautiful. Time heals but never takes it away. My cat that rescued 13 years ago hasn't come home, it's been over a week. It's ripping me up. This is already as hard time of year for me. food has not been my friend but I do understand.

Of course a dog is a sin to you it is your friend it is your companion in some cases they sleep with you they eat with you they're always happy to see you 100% loving and accepting and happy to be with you all the time how could you not have strong feelings for your Companion Pet it is perfectly normal it is like losing a loved one you will probably go through the seven stages of grief it is better to feel the pain and experience them to stuff it believe me I know I speak from experience I lost my son Which is far more difficult than losing a pet you as you can imagine let me know how it goes not having food to cope with emotion I think that is my biggest fear that I will handle that psychologically I think that will make it necessary to experience feelings and I'm not sure how I will do with that since I've been stuffing them for so long I've not yet had surgery good luck in all your endeavors

My gosh, I am sorry. Are you talking about the semi? Cuz i work with D.O.T, plating, safety and it is so expensive. Not sure how anyone these days xmcan own their own rigs and make it. Government makes it so hard with all the rules and regulations they put out there. But I am sorry.

Thank you all, I love you all on here. All gave some comforting words, love the pics of all pups. I prob gonna get a new pup, still have one too. I am so sorry to hear/read about that. He looks like an absolutely beautiful baby too. I definitely understand though. While I was in college I had to put my 13yo cat down and it absolutely broke my heart.

It may feel like the absolute worst thing, and i don't know if you're the same as I was when I did it, but I felt extremely guilty. I constantly wondered if it was the right thing to do, if I could have done anything else for her -- I couldn't. Just keep reminding yourself it's for the better for him. He's released from any pain, suffering, and/or ailments he had thanks to that hard decision, and he's no doubt very thankful for it.

Awe I am so so so sorry for your loss! What a beautiful dane! Just remember the food won't comfort you. We think it will but it won't. It won't fill the void you feel losing your best friend and will only make you possibly feel guilty later. Find a distraction. It's been my saving grace. Get lost in an adult coloring book, watch your favorite TV series. Go for a walk. Call a friend and vent. Anything but food! I know it's easier said than done but I hope this helps in some way. My thoughts are with you!! You got this! Stay strong
