Omgosh I can't take this

I'm 3 weeks post op and want to chug a big cold glass of Water. Does it ever get any better? Will I ever be able to drink normal again?

  • Liquid is not going to stretch your pouch. Yes, you will be able to drink normal again. The biggest issue is gulping can be very painful. I know even now after two years, I will drink a whole bottle

Yes, you will be able to drink normal again. The biggest issue is gulping can be very painful. I know even now after two years, I will drink a whole bottle of Water very quickly but if i accidentally gulp it causes a nasty pain in your chest.

For now....sip every few seconds and that thirst will go away.

I also know for me, my pouch prefers room temperature Water. Any time i drink anything ice cold I swear my tummy simply hurts for a while, especially in the am.

If I am sipping cold is no problem.

You will not stretch your pouch with fluids. It may hurt like hell though. I had sleeve but typically the same sipping is required - I'm able to drink normally and only 2 weeks out.
  • 2 weeks later...

I'm two weeks out from sleeve today and when I told my doc I can actually drink a lot of liquids she said liquids quickly slip past the stomach and therefore don't stretch it. I can almost chuck liquids right now.

I'm 3 weeks post op and have no issues drinking normally. I haven't tried to chug anything because it feels better to just drink normally.
