What's wrong with me?

I am 11 days out and everything I ingest makes me burp or pass gas and I get extremely sick. Is this normal? Should I contact the doctor. I have my week post-op and wasn't feeling this bad. I've been having trouble with protein and water. I am suppose to start soft foods in 3 days and I'm afraid I won't be able to handle it. Will this get better? Please help.

@@angriggs86 You probably should contact your surgeon...which surgery did you have? Are you taking a proton pump inhibitor like Protonix to keep your stomach acid down? Excess acid can cause all of the symptoms you're having.

You need to be able to keep water and liquid protein down before you should consider advancing to soft foods, so seeing your doctor or at least calling seems necessary. Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon!

I was the same way. Around days 10 and 11 I began to get physically sick from my protein shakes. Weakness, nausea, and discomfort with drinking protein. I managed to stick it out until I saw my NUT on day 16. I was then granted soft foods. Even though most the soft foods don't make me nauseas, I still get discomfort after eating a lot of them. I think this is totally normal, and I expect it to get better.

You will find, on soft foods, that some goes down very well, and others not so much. It is trial and error. But if you are like me, adding the variety of soft foods for the most part eliminates the sickness you are getting now.

Good luck!
