Must-Haves before surgery

Recommended Posts

As my surgery date is approaching (November 9th), I'm watching a million "haul" videos and reading through as much stuff as I can to get an idea of the "must-haves" before surgery. Aside from the food/drink stuff, what else did you find helpful to have before your surgery date? I just ordered all of my Vitamins and a pill organizer, and I got a few small containers (1/4 cup and 1/2 cup sizes). Any other ideas? Thanks guys!!

I'm 6 weeks out yesterday. I bought the 2oz cups with lids I still can't eat but 2 oz at a time My dr said my pouch is 1/3 cup size. But if I eat that much my stomach hurts a lot. Just a suggestion!!

Digital food scale, immersion blender, Bubba Keg and a heating pad for me.

Ditto this.

Heating pad was HUGE for me. I have an old Thermophore that is awesome.

I bought appetizer spoons and forks. They're as small as the ones for babies but don't look so juvenile. I also bought some vintage mini ramekins or custard cups. I can't wait to try them! I haven't had my surgery yet.

I use my digital food scale pretty much every day still so that's a definite must have from me.

My other great purchase was a blender bottle- makes it so easy to whip up Protein Shakes while traveling.

I stocked Soup, Protein Drinks, etc. for six months. Heck I was in the grocery store in 48 hours. I could have survived on 2 cans of soup and a six pack Protein drinks for a week. I never even felt I had surgery.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I did buy some baby spoons, am stocked up on Premier Protein and sugar-free Jello, and am going to get some more grocery shopping done soon. I love the immersion blender idea, and will definitely make sure I have a good heating pad. I have heard mixed reviews on Gas-X strips... did anyone find them useful? Or just a waste of time?

@@kayceelizzie I use my Blender Bottle every day (Pre-op diet). They are great for work. I bought appetizer forks and spoons (didn't want baby ones). I bought some Atkins Lift Protein drink and some Powerade Zero to have on hand (not a lot), a few packages of sugar free drink mix - similar to crystal light to add to water), a few different kinds of herbal teas (including the Smooth Move one for constipation). At the suggestion of other members, I bought a few comfy front closure bras (no wires) to wear post-op.

I used a Mr. coffee cup warmer to put my plate on to keep things warm. Also, pick a meal to practice slow eating (I did lunch). Shot glasses made great sipping cups for Water. Start trying Protein shakes. Stop by GNC and try Isopure clear. If you can stomach it, it is great for protien and hydration the first two weeks, but not to everyone's taste.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
