HELP!Gastroparesis before getting band

I am thinking of getting lap band but I have Gastroparesis and severe acid reflux. I'm just trying to find someone who has had gastroparesis prior to getting lap band and if it has made it worse or better? I have read where a lot of people have developed gastroparesis after getting the band and surely don't want to make it any worse and pay all that money and have to get it removed. Please help anybody that has been there already. Thank you in advance.

  • @@cajunkyl99 I'm not a bander but I don't think a surgeon will do a band with gastroparesis or reflux as these can be complications of a band.

  • Thank u I sure wouldn't want it to get any worse. For sure... Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

  • It sounds as though Gastric Sleeve may be a surgical option to treat gastroparesis. You may want to look into that. Good luck!

Does that help with weight loss also?

Yes - it's a WLS - but also has been used to treat gastroparesis. They discovered the weight loss benefits of the surgery after doing it for other medical reasons.

I had pretty bad gastric reflux before sleeve surgery. During my procedure my doctor noticed I had a hiatal hernia and was able to fix it while he was in there. Reflux is not a problem anymore :-)

When did u have the sleeve done and how are u liking it? Have u lost weight with it? That's what I'm going to end up getting now that I have read up on the lap band and realized the sleeve could help with my gastroparesis.
