Current Weight July 18, 2016

My current/highest weight is 335 and I am 6"0

My BMI is 45ish

I don't know if I will have to lose any weight within my 6 month pre op. I'll have to be 300+ to stay qualified and above 40 BMI but I won't mind dropping 20-30 pounds if they need me to.

Insurance usually goes by your starting weight to qualify you. Then you may be asked to lose a certain amount to prove that you can make the necessary changes for success with the surgery. I will tell you that every insurance policy is different, so please verify what is expected in order to qualify. I was told to only lose 5% of my weight and they went with my starting weight to qualify me.Biggest thing is not to gain. This is very important. Good luck to you!

Who do you have? I have blue cross. I have been approved for surgery and my date is 8-9. I'm 6'1 and 325. I didn't have to lose either, just did the 6 mo classes and now my pre op is next Thursday

@@jaimelu I have Blue Cross. I got referred early and they approved me after three months because I had done all the classes and was already diagnosed with sleep apnea. I think Blue Cross is pretty supportive of WLS. They know it lowers future claims for diabetes and other obesity related issues. Glad you got approved! Is your pre-op diet bad? Mine was 2 weeks of nothing but liquids...it was rough but I would do it again!

Thank you Connie! I will do whatever they tell me. I'm so excited for this change! 6 months+ can't pass soon enough!

Jaime I have a type of Medicare UPMC for you. So 6 months of classes is mandatory too! So we have almost the same type of height and weight. After I meet with the surgeon I'll update if I have to loose any weight pre op but even if it's not mandatory I still might with the pre op diet. And good luck to you!
