I'm 3 days post-op and have a couple of questions.

1. What's with this frothy foamy stuff coming up from my stomach? Does it mean I'm drinking too much, not enough, or just something that happens?

2. How long did you guys wait before taking a laxative? I don't feel like I'm constipated and have been passing gas. (TMI, sorry) But I'm afraid to let it go too long and also afraid to put a laxative into my poor abused GI tract right now. And advice?

Thanks!

I'm only 3.5 weeks post op, so someone with more experience will have to answer about the foam.

I was prescribed both a stool softener and a drug called Senna when I was discharged. I discontinued the Senna pretty quickly, it was causing some diarrhea, but I'm still taking the stool softener. 3 days with no bowel movement is well within normal, my doc said not to get concerned until I got to more like 10 days with nothing. I think my first one was about 5 or 6 days post-op.

My first bm was at 7 days post. I'd call and ask your team if it's been more than that. Mine (tmi ahead) felt like a weird fart, so I went to the toilet and it was a tiny bit of blackish diarrhea. After that I went again and it was more. The next day I had one bad diarrhea, and today it stopped being blackish.

The foam could also be from gas in your system, combined with drinking too quickly or too much. I had a lot of hiccups (ow) and burping my first few days. Gas-X strips have been wonderful for reducing the gurgling rom my gut.

I am almost 2 weeks post op. Before surgery, and all my life, I had daily BMW like clockwork. I knew to expect some Constipation, especially because of pain meds. I went 7 days with no BM. First couple of BMs were very small. I went 3 days in a row and felt great, now I am 3 days with no BM and am miserable. My surgeon recommended Mira lax. Definitely going to start taking it immediately!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
