Not able to sleep after surgery

I am a week out from surgery and I can't sleep! I haven't taken any pain meds since last Thursday when I left the hospital. The past few nights I just can't go to sleep or stay asleep. I didn't even nap hoping that was the problem and it wasn't. I have always been able to sleep without issues! I am wondering if it is a hormone issue?

Thanks ladies! I guess if I am going to have a side effect this one isn't terrible! I will try the melatonin and will definitely be having wine when I am able.

I had this problem and still do ever since surgery. My doctor told me to take melatonin. I take it about 1 hour before bedtime and it helps me sleep.

I balanced it out by exercising more so that my body was tired, taking a warm bath right before bed, shutting off all electronics two hours before bed, blah blah blah. None of that worked.

What worked was 1/2 Xanax and/or a small glass of wine once I was cleared for alcohol. And yes, my quack doctor was fine with it.
