Hi,

Did anyone take a bath or shower after surgery and how long after was the first time and what is best shower or bath any thoughts welcome

Baths are going to be a no no for a while, don't want incisions infected. I took a regular shower two days after surgery. Just be gentle but it was honestly the best thing ever. Helps to wash the hospital off of you.

I was able to shower right away. I probably could have taken one in the hospital. I was told just not to rub my incisions. I was't allowed to submerge in water (bathe, swim) until after my incisions had healed. About four weeks.

I was able to shower the next morning in the hospital. My surgeon used dermabond or something similar on my incisions. I just had to make sure I didn't rub them or try to pull it off.

I showered my second day in the hospital. They glued me shut so all I had to do was just avoid scrubbing those areas and keep a waterproof bandage over my drain. The drain was the worst part about bathing but I got a lanyard and clipped it to the drain for hands free showering. Made life easier. I wasn't cleared for bathing in the tub til after the hole where my drain had been had completely closed good...probably like 2 month post op.

I showered the morning after when I got home from the hospital. I was told to use antibacterial soap, and don't rub it directly on the incisions but to let it run down my body and run over the sterie strips. i had to keep the sterie strips on for one week, and showered normally with them. you just have to make sure you pat them dry. I was told no baths for 60 days.
