Trying to get back on track

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been away for a while but need some help. I was sleeved on 11/14/13 and initally lost 65 lbs and never got to my goal of 160. I remained at 195 for almost a year and am now creeping up ever so slowly and feel awful. I'm at 202 today. I despertedly want to get to goal and start losing again but I'm at a loss as to where to start. I can still 2 1/2 years out eat very little, only 3 oz of pure Protein at a time. I don't eat serious junk but find myself picking. I am thinking it is a combination of things, I don't think I eat enough (I'm about 700 cals most days), I don't exercise and fear my metabolism is shot. I'm still drink Protein shakes 2 a day. Has anyone out there been in a similar situation? How do I start the weight loss again? Is the 5:2 something to consider? Looking for any and all advice. Thanks in advance.

No, it doesn't sound like you are eating enough.

I would highly recommend that you make an appointment with your NUT.

In the meantime, go back to basics.

Follow your plan.

Track, weigh, and measure your food.

Make sure you are getting AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid a day.

Make sure you are getting in all of your protein every day. What is your protein target? You need to be getting at least that amount every day (mine is 100 grams).

Avoid starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), carbonation, caffeine, and fried foods.

Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed.

And, exercise.

If you are only eating 700 calories a day, I don't thin 5:2 will help. 5:2 is a method of calorie reduction. Cutting back to 500 calories a day twice a week isn't going to make much of a dent.

What are you picking at?

First thing to do is be honest with yourself; you don't gain weight eating 700 calories a day. Are you actually tracking every morsel/liquid you put in your mouth. You may be surprised how quickly calories add up. Seek professional guidance on your food choices and what you should be eating.

I would be surprised if you are only eating 700calories a day if you are having 2 Protein drinks a day plus dense Protein plus picking at junky food. I learned in my years in weight watchers that BLTs (bites, licks and tastes) ad up really fast.

Tracking is a really good idea, and it should include measuring. Another thought is to experiment.especially since you have such good restriction How about eating 2 oz of dense protein 5x a day followed by a bit of low carb veggies. Drink 64oz or more of Water between your 5 mini meals. Abstain from eating or drinking any calories/ carbs between those mini meals. Experiment with dropping the Protein Drinks. Try all that for 2-4 weeks of diligently following it and I bet you see some losses.

There are two phases to weight loss surgery: the weight loss phase and the maintenance phase. This article records my experience with the maintenance phase.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
