Coffee and protein?

Hello!!

I am almost 6 weeks out and I'm really missing my coffee habit...

I manage fine without it and my premier Protein chocolate shake gives me energy for the day, but I just miss the taste and comfort of coffee.

I drink 1 shake every morning, which gets me 11 oz and 30g of protein, which is great to start the day, but doesn't leave room for much else in my daily morning rush out the door. Usually the thing that slows me down most in the morning is making sure I finish my shake.

I've read that most people suggest not counting coffee towards your daily liquid requirements, as coffee is dehydrating.

I was wondering if anyone has tried mixing their coffee with the premier Protein shakes? The vanilla flavor?

I got a box of the strawberry flavor to drink on it's own and it was so cloyingly sweet it left me feeling sick every morning, and I ended up throwing them away.

I'm afraid the vanilla flavor will be the same way... but might be good mixed with coffee. I know that the only way to find out for sure is to try it but I'm on a budget and I can't afford to buy an 18 pack of shakes to find out I can't stand it, especially after throwing half a box away already.

I wanted to know if the vanilla Premier Protein shakes taste good with coffee, or if they clump up when mixed with the hot coffee, or if anyone has found a way to drink coffee and still get their protein in.

Thanks!

My coffee is one of the major ways I reach my protein goals. I could NEVER tolerate shakes. I just could not get them past my nose. I mix1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein Powder, 1/2 scoop of chocolat

I have the Atkins but they only have 15 grams of protein and the sugar is not bad but it does not taste too good to me and if I'm going to drink something that I don't like I'd rather stick with the premier shakes that have 30 grams of protein or the pure protein whey that has 25 but I use 8 oz of fair life skim milk which has 13 grams of protein and only 6 carbs, which I think is pretty good.

I'm looking for something I can use with my own coffee... I'm a tiny bit of a coffee snob and want to enjoy the Beans I love!

The "Coffee Nazi" (that's what my daughters call me) does this:

I HAVE MY COFFEE EVERY MORNING!!!!!

I just figure it into my day's menu. That is one thing my Nut. and surgeon knew from the start. We as a team, planned around my daily coffee with half and half.

The alternative of me not having my coffee would not be pretty.

No. Not pretty at all...

We are so on the same page.

That is how I proceeded. I knew I had the right surgeon when he said, "Sure you can....I have 2 cups a day....why can't you".

I knew right then he was my guy !

My coffee is one of the major ways I reach my Protein goals. I could NEVER tolerate shakes. I just could not get them past my nose. I mix1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein Powder, 1/2 scoop of chocolate protein powder in a large mug of coffee every morning with fat free french vanilla creamer and Splenda. It is one of the best mocha beverages I have had. Even more than 2 years out, I still start my day with a cup every day. I'm already looking forward to my morning cup tomorrow just thinking about it.

Damn.....this sounds like a divine drink.

I need this in my life.

Morning coffee is almost as good as afternoon margaritas...........

You guys... I had coffee today. I missed it so much I almost cried after the first sip.

@ crazyplantlady,

First, congratulations on doing so well these first six weeks!

For caffeinated coffee, I agree with @@Bufflehead that it’s not truly dehydrating unless you drink a ton of it and take a few caffeine pills, too. The liquid in coffee far outweighs the diuretic effect of caffeine that makes your body lose Water.

Decaf coffee is another choice – especially if you’ve been able to get off of caffeine since surgery. Maybe it would be neat not to start depending on it again. You mentioned you missed the taste and comfort of coffee, not the caffeine, so maybe decaf would work.

If you’re worried about the texture of the shake or being able to mix it in with the Protein powder, you could try instant coffee. I mean, make your shake as usual, then stir in some instant regular or decaf coffee. That would give you the taste with no worries about clumping, since instant coffee is made to dissolve really well.

I drink a cup of coffee and some half and half with a scoop of unflavored, unsweetened Protein powder every morning. Dosen't clump. I used to use unjury, but switched to rawdynamix because i felt it was the same quality and cheaper and they ship fast.

They offer coffee flavored powder too.

I use Iso 100 in cinnamon bun flavor with my coffee. But first I stir it up in about an ounce of almond milk, so it doesn't clump!! It's amazing and I look forward to drinking it every morning!!
