When does Port Pain end??

Hi Everyone...

Another question for the experts:),

When does the port pain end? I have had surgery 5 days ago and I still feel pretty good port pain....

-hard to roll over, stay on side, either side

-area feels tender sort of swollen

Am I jumping the gun thinking I should be Super Woman on healing or what??

Thanks again!!

everyone is different. i was banded the 18th and still have pain. my wife yesterday and seems to be doing better than i am. if i think about the first couple days, i am definetly improving as im sure u r also. remeber, u didnt get into this thinking about a few weeks, but a life change. in a month im sure u will hardly remember the pain. for your sake and mine, i hope im right. ha ha

Hello

I was banded May 30, and I totally understand the pain with the port. Mine did seem to hang on longer than the rest of the incisions, and I would say mine lasted almost 2 weeks or so. Now I was able to sleep better after about a week, but even now, 8 weeks later, that is the area that sometimes will pull, or twitch.

BUT....it is so worth it...

I went back for my 2 checkup and my 2 fill...and I lost 13 lbs.

I was so excited....

Hang in there, it will get better;)

I agree I was banded on the 19th and my port is very tender and sore. I cant wait to be able to not wake up when i roll over @ night!!!!

I seem to remember that it lasted 3-4 weeks, but it got a little better every single day. Hang in there!

I had port pain for a long time. It was sometimes severe (not to scare you, just honesty). My doc said it is because of the muscle that it was stitched to. I asked about it on here and some people said it will go away overnight....I did not believe them and lo and behold, it went away overnight!!!! When I went back to the doctor I told him that I felt almost a pull/pop when I was hanging curtains and the pain went away, he said I must have popped the last stitch.

So be prepared, it could hurt for a while but the pain is all forgotten now and the weight loss is great. Life is good!

Congratulations on your band and welcome!

I haven't been banded yet, but I had hernia repair last summer with a mesh insert. Just when I tho't the pain should be easing up it seemed to get much, much worse! I went to the doctor and he said that was normal anytime the body was adjusting to a foreign object being left inside. My previous surgeries (hysterectomy and gall bladder) only REMOVED items, didn't leave anything behind.

I am almost 8 weeks post op and my incision is still very sensitive. I still cannot sleep on my side... It literally hurt for a solid 6 weeks!

sorry to hear that. at least u can take satisfaction in ur weight lose. looks like ur doing very well. im assuming ur doc is in the lop on this pain issue. hope it subsides soon. im only week and a half from banding and still have pain and sleep issues, but seems to be getting better slooowly.

Hey All!

My Port Pain is eventually getting much better!! It's been 9 days and I actually could turn on my side without THAT much pain!!

Thanks to everyone who eased my fears......I love my lap-band!!

Sorry to hear that you guys are having such bad port pain post-op (say that three times fast). I guess I am one of the lucky ones as I never had any real pain whatsoever with the port or the surgery. Even after 2 fills, my port isn't sensitive at all...

Good luck to you all!
