My surgeon sent me home with a drain for ten days with no instructions on changing the dressing or anything. Is this normal? I have six days to go and don't see how these bandages are going to last that long. The drain is my foe. I hate it!

I had a drain, it was the worst part of recovery. I changed the bandages every day and was sent home with new dressings to use. Surprising they didn't give you any instructions...

That is what i thought. The nursing staff at my hospital was inept. So frustrating.

I had a drain for a week. Had to clean around it everyday with warm water and antibacterial soap or I would lather the towel really well in the shower and squeeze the water and soap from the towel to let it run over the drain site. Afterwards I put take a large gauze bandage cut a slit in it and place around the drain site and tape it up. Oh yea had to empty it everyday but they were wrong for not providing you with instructions.
