I was banded 6/25/07 weighing 248 post-op, today 7/23/07 I weigh 219, I am scheduled for my first fill 8/23/07.

So far I have lost 36 lb, but I still have a month to go before getting filled.

I haven't been hungry yet. I've been eating just to get my protien.

I am wondering if it is normal to not have much restriction before the first fill....I am only 10 days post op but can consume a lot more than I thought I would. I have lost 10 pounds already though! I am wondering if I am doing alright.....?????

In the 12 weeks between surgery and my first fill I lost about 40lb, about half of my excess weight.

I had remarkably good restriction after surgery, it lasted about 8 weeks, I was full of fresh enthusiasm and good intentions and I just milked it for all it was worth. Since then I've been a pretty slow loser, but lost it I have, its just taken a good year and a bit to lose the other 40lb or so. I'd still like to lose another 10 but at the rate of 1 or 2lb a month, that will take me until next year.

I was banded 4-19-07. I have lost 51.5 pounds since surgery. I just got my first fill today, 7-23-07.

I lost ten pounds in my two weeks pre op diet. So, I have a total of 61.5!!

OK.....40lbs lost from surgery to first fill then I hear 50lbs:omg:......I was hoping to hear that I was doing fine....LOL!! I guess I am surprised that I can consume this much. I thought I would be more restricted but from what I am hearing in other posts that it is normal not to feel restriction yet and this isn't a time to lose but to heal. I guess I hear these BIG NUMBERS and think that maybe 10 pounds already isn't good enough. I will say that I have not exercised yet...just haven't been able to....still a bit sore. I am going to start today though! My eliptical is waiting in my livingroom calling my name!! I started a LIST of things that are going to begin today.....maybe I am too hard on myself...I just so badly want to succeed at this.....so badly! I also don't feel I am a very disciplined person when it comes to dieting and food. That how I got here to begin with. Can someone comment on the discipline and change of mindset??? Any suggestions or comments are welcomed. :)

I was banded on 6/25/07 weight was 230. I have lost 15lbs. I can tell that i am not as restricted as before. So yes I am worried that I will gain some weight back before my first fill.

Just know that exercise will be a word in your vocabulary from now on. Not a stroll around the block once every two weeks, but an everyday thing that you HAVE to do. I am not saying to do it before you are healed and ready, but that has been the reason behind my success. I will totally give it up to exercising. I started walking the halls a bit after surgery and haven't stopped exercising yet, three months later. This band is NOT going to make you have the lean muscle that you need to burn calories all day, it will help with your portions, but you need to burn fat and gain muscle!!! I hope that makes sense!!

I was banded June 26,2007 and I have lost 20 lbs since surgery. I feel very restricted and have not made an appointment to get a fill yet. I exercise 30-40 mins. everyday. Hang in there you are doing fine.

Everyone is different. Some people do get great restriction from surgery without a fill. Most people need around 3 fills to finally have really good restriction. I know for me, I have to exercise. I have a very slow metabolism.

Lily, you are just at the beginning. You are in what they call bandster hell. don't be too hard on yourself until you get a fill or several fills Then you'll start experiencing what you can and can't eat. Right now you are like someone with no band.

WOW! It seems everyone is losing rapid amounts of weight! I am only 8 days post-op and have lost maybe 5 lbs. Istill feel very bloated at times almost like I'm retaining Water. It was Clear Liquids for about the 1st 5 days, now it's full liquids. I don't feel very hungry, so that is a good thing. I guess I AM SO ANXIOUS and want to start losing quicker...;))

Way to go everyone!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
