Hi all!

I had the sleeve done Jan 2013, lost 150lbs and then gained back around 60 of them. Talked to my surgeon and we agreed that my best option at this point would be to revise to the duodenal switch.

I AM super excited about having another second chance but I'm terrified aboutt failing again.

I also am more worried about recovery time because my boss if acting very reluctant to give me a lot of time off(I'll only have 9 months in so I'm not eligible for FMLA). I'm really hoping to only need two weeks off but I know I needed a lot more than that the first time around.

Any advise or stories about recovery? I just want to be optimistic while still being realistic.

Thanks!

Sorry no advice to give, but I am curious...to what do you attribute your weight gain too? Poor diet? Lack of exercise? Not asking to be critical of you, but I am curious on what the mode of failure was for you and your sleeve. Thanks!

I don't think I was really prepared mentally for everything. It was hard to break old habits.

This time around I know my mistakes and I'm in therapy to help with everything as well.

I just had revision to sips which is not what i wanted or knowingly got, surprise by the surgeon but i do know the paranoia! I am not going to do another surgery this is my last chance and worried since they did a new surgery and extended the limb to 450cm instead of 300 like all the info i find i just don't know if it's going to work or not!!

Not sure what kind of work you do but i had open surgery Dec 20th and was out and about 4 or 5 days later and on new years day driving my classic car in a car cruise if that helps any. The incision is a bit sore cause the staples were irritating my skin and had them removed before my post-op which is a couple days away still. Oh and a big ol camera hanging on my neck rubbing my belly with made it a little sore. Otherwise i'm doing great so if your job isn't real physical i think you will be fine.

My DS was my 3rd abdominal surgery, but my first in regards to Bariatric surgery.

I have to say, my recovery sucked. It was incredibly painful. The surgeon clipped a nerve that left a sensation of white hot fire burning across my abdomen for close to two weeks. Landing me back in the hospital for stroke level blood pressure.

Now, im 150lb lighter and happy as a clam, but don't believe it might not be 2 weeks of agony.

Not to mention even though Im dead sexy now, my excessive gas is a deal breaker!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
