I am 4 weeks post op have a very hard time not having a sip of water during dinner Is this harmful? I probably have about a oz during meal Will this stretch my stomach? Any ideas so I don't drink. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem

I am 2 months out and can hardly make it through a meal without a few sips of water.

Please be careful you guys, drinking with you meal is not advisable. It causes the food to flush through your sleeve, allowing you the capacity to eat more. The stomach is a muscle, it can stretch-as explained to me by my P.A.

I keep myself busy after I eat. It does get easier. I am one year out.

Btw, I just remembered, someone mentionedon another thread that they ate lettuce after their meal (since lettuce is mostly water). it made it easier to wait the 30 minutes. You probably can't have lettuce yet, but something to store in the memory bank for later.

I am 7 weeks post op and find that foods that contain moisture (chili, chicken with tomato sauce, slow cooked shredded pork, pureed meats with vegetables, Soup, etc.) are easier to eat without sipping Water. I try to stay away from dry Proteins because they are tough to get down without sipping water.

I can wait the 30 min after dinner its durning dinner I need a sip or two. It's less then a oz sometimes I just suck on a very small ice cube

Someone had the best video link that showed exactly why you shouldn't drink while you eat. It was a guy with applesauce and a funnel. It etched into to my mind why I shouldn't drink when I eat.

Please don't try and eat raw veggies until you are at least 6 months out. I didn't do it and my ass paid the cost for that one.

@BritishBornBabe. Please follow your Drs orders on drinking. You will get differing opinions.

My bariatric team Initially said wait 30 min. After I drink to eat and recently changed it to 15 minutes. However, I am part of a Facebook group for sleevers & many of them say they were told they can drink up to the second before they eat.

Still can't figure out why there are so many differences.

@@Kathy812 I was not told about drinking liquids before meals so will have to ask. I have also read in different places different lengths of time but have stuck to waiting for 30 mins after drinking to eat just to be on the safe side.

yes! If you fill your stomach with liquids you wont be able to eat the protein your body needs & will get fuller faster. Stop 1/2 before & dont drink until 1/2 after eating.

LIKE SAID ABOVE, IT PUSHES THE FOOD THRU, MAKING YOU HUNGRIER FASTER, SOME EVEN SABOTAGE THEIR SURGERIES BY DRINKING WHILE EATING SO THAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY EAT MORE - I CAN'T IMAGINE DOING THAT BUT I'VE READ IT OVER AND OVER. I JUST MADE IT A STRICT RULE THAT I KNEW I HAD TO LIVE WITH AND NOW IT'S JUST LIFE, I DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, I CAN USUALLY TELL WHEN IT'S BEEN ABOUT HALF AN HOUR AFTER FOOD AND THEN I DRINK, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE REGARDING THIS SURGERY, YOU JUST GET USED TO IT.

I specifically asked my doctor about this on Monday and I was surprised to learn the FACTS:

1. Drinking while eating cannot do any damage after 7 weeks (which is when your sleeve is fully healed). Before week 7, it can stretch things and conceivably open the incisions (just like eating too much).
2. Drinking while eating has no impact on whether or not your GI processes all the food you eat. If your food isn't digested in your stomach, it will be digested in your intestines,

3. That said, the only reason one should be careful when drinking while eating (after week 7) isto make sure you have room to take in all the food you need.

We did not discuss drinking while eating as a "strategy" to enable one to cheat and eat more than their sleeve allows. The fact is, there are plenty of ways to cheat if that's something you're inclined to do...
