Did they not tell you this info in your nutrition classes. They address all of this before surgery..... This is why the veteran on this form get upset.... If your surgeon office didn't explain all the reason why to you.... It's a disgrace..... But my surgeon office made us take a test after each class to make sure we understood everything... Sorry if this is coming across as a rude reply because it's really not... I'm just very concern why so many people are not aware of the reason not to drink after surgery.... Again I feel it's a disgrace that patience are not aware of the problems from consuming these types of beverages and the risk involved... How about you mental evaluation? My doctor also discuss this matter with me. He made sure I understand and would follow my Dr. Orders. This is why I'm so confuse....... I'm just trying to figure it out... I had to jump through so many hoops before surgery even took places.... Why are some Dr. Not addressing these important facts about this surgery is mind blowing to me... Again please don't take this as a rude reply.. But to answer your question I was told 6 months but if I could wait a year even better. I'm only 3 months out of surgery and remember all the rules and why.... Maybe all Dr should go to testing patients on the info to make sure they understand everything and to cover themselves that a patient was told and understood everything ...

@Megdelyn I was a heavy drinker too before the surgery. We have drive-thru daiquirs bars here in New Orleans. I had a large (32 oz) daiquiri every night (with extra shots) for almost 30 years. I'm sure we all know how much sugar is in those things. I haven't had one sip of alcohol since the surgery. I'm leaving to go on vacation next week and will be having some margaritas, etc. I'm surprised you didn't get drunk fast. I like that slow buzz. It would take me aboutg 3 hours to nurse on my daiquiri. Did you try and drink anything other than wine? If so, did it give you heartburn?

I was surprised as well, was really expecting to feel it more than I did. Well, maybe I did because one glass is just enough now.

Rosé gives me more heartburn than white. Dry whites give me more heartburn than fruity ones. I've had a margarita without heartburn. I used to drink a lot of sours, but I probably won't now - too much sugar. Sticking with wine has been my best bet.

These forums are in no way here to replace your doctor or nutritionist. If you have a question that wasn't covered doesn't it make since to call the person you are paying to manage your health? I can share my experiences but I am in no way qualified to do more than give my opinion.

Thats what i mean its here for options. I do beleive thats what the person was looking for

My doctor said 6 months.

I'm on full liquids for a month

Then pureed for a month

Then soft foods for a month

Then real food.

He told me to wait until I can eat more normally to drink.

What you said makes no sense.

I just had surgery, and I've found great support here. Luckily I've never asked a question that babbs is displeased with and I've avoided her virtual eye rolling. But I've come across it often and it's less than helpful.

I have a drink maybe once a year if that, so it's never been an issue for me. I am lucky there. I also gave up soda 9 months preop. I only do decaf tea now because coffee makes me nauseous (used to love it). You will be surprised what you think you can't live without really isn't that important anymore.
