Gas and or hunger?

My doctor told me that because of the gas pain and hunger not pain but discomfort I basically have to tell the difference between the two I'm only 3 days post op but I'm still learning the difference. Have any of you have had this issue ?

Gas pain is typically in your shoulder or neck or upper chest, I think it would be hard to confuse that with hunger. Did your surgeon maybe mean it's hard to tell the difference between stomach acid and hunger? Many people have trouble with that at the beginning, particularly if they are not on a PPI or not on the right PPI.

Upper chest for sure I know is gas. But how did you know if you where hungry or not?
