Pregnancy after sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 months post op CW:174

I'm on the pill but I feel it's failed.

This past week I've been extremely tired and moody along with cramps and dizziness.

But my period is due the 1st so it's too early to tell.

Has anyone gotten pregnant on the pill?

Typically sleevers and those with RNY are told to use an alternative method of birth control. pills are not effective for birth control for us due to changes to the stomach. Hope all is well with you. If you are not pregnant and do not want to be, would recommend you contact your bariatric clinic and ask for their advice on a better method of contraception for you.

Best of luck.

I agree with kimby1029, I was told that using the pill was not effective because the absorption changes after being sleeved. My husband and I have been EXTREMELY careful and use condoms for added protection. I was told to consider mirena or an IUD which I refuse to get. Heard too much about them.. Sticking with the added protection of the condoms. After vsg, my doctor said I would be highly fertile, so to be really careful. Someone I knew who was sleeved got prego around her 5 month post op, and had to see a obgyn that specialized in high risk pregnancies, to ensure the baby as well as herself was getting the proper nutrition. It was really tough on her. Hope everything works out well.

You may want to get your Iron and Vitamin D checked. That has the symptoms you described as well as dehydration and lack of calories. That's what I'd think about first. If you've not even missed your period yet, you really wouldn't be having symptoms yet. I'm saying this as an ob/gyn medical assistant and mother of 7 :). I hope you feel better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
