Introduction

Hi, I'm preop and just got approved by Kaiser to have bariatric surgery. I'm seriously considering the sleeve but am concerned about GERD since I get heartburn frequently. RNY is the other option I'm exploring. My husband had the RNY and kept off 100 lbs 10 years later. I'm scared to lose the comfort of food and I wonder if I tried hard enough to diet to warrant having this surgery. I just don't want to continue to fail and I'm tired of being tired. I've learned a great deal from you guys and have browsed posts for hours. Looking forward to learning more on my journey.

Don't base your journey off of anyone else. My surgeon said my BMI was within range to do wither surgery but to have the sleeve i had to keep my BMI under 50. so it all depends on who you talk to. we

Congrats on you approval! I agree that GERD is no joke. I am opting for RNY. Keep researching and I'm sure you'll make the right decision. ☺️

I have GERD, occasionally my esophagus needs to be stretched, but by taking daily omeprazole I am not having any problems post-sleeve.

Just do what you feel is best. Im being sleeved next thursday and I'm just excited to get started. Ive been on my preop diet for 4 weeks and although I'm super tired my knee pain has eased up and I just feel better.
