Anyone else as scared as i am?

I really thought i wanted this but the closer i get to surgery date ( Aug 4th) the more im questioning if this is safe for me. I saw my psych doc yesterday and he changed my meds a little bit to prepare for my smaller stomach. He gave me a mood stabilizer which is also an anti seizure med because i guess there is a possibility of seisures w my meds if my electrolytes are off! One more thing to worry about! I keep telling myself to just do the best that i can do and leave the rest to God but im still really unsure if this is the right thung. Does God want me to rearrange my stomach? I know i sound like a huge baby but im hoping i can bear my soul with you guys without judgement. I really thought i wanted this but now....?

Dub- ???????? love what you wrote.

Thank you.

We are all going to make it.

More than just make it.....we are going to thrive.

It's going to take some work....and some discipline, though. These aren't strong suites for many of us....thus the obesity.

The bypass is one heck of powerful tool for us to gain leverage over our weight.

If we grow a little bit.....push ourselves a little bit.....learn to use this tool.....we can get miraculous results.

Even if we make a few mistakes and stall a bit....this tool is still there working at some level.....waiting for us to come around and back on track.

This is our chance to get the results we've not even let ourselves dream about.

I think about the clothes in my closet that are going to Goodwill.

In what will seem like no time at all I'll be wearing clothes that are sizes I have not worn since Jr High School.......some 35 years ago.

This isn't a dream but a reality that's within each of our grasps.

Hard to imagine now....but it's coming.

Going to be a fun ride.

Wow @@Dub that is a powerful and inspirational post. I'm going to do my best to follow every one of your excellent guidelines. Thank you so much for sharing!

You've found a way to put into eloquent words exactly what all of us are or will be going through. Just wonderful!

Last week I was ok, this week I am going through the same fears as you. I was thinking, do I really want to do this? I don't need the surgery... I can just be disciplined. Without thinking I walked over to the kitchen and ate a piece of cake and then it dawned on me. Who am I kidding? I don't have the will power to do this alone. I know if I cancel the surgery I will regret it and worse having to wait again for an approval again. I know the surgery is not a magic pill but I do need the restriction and the discipline that comes with it.

Although I'm scared and worried I have faith that all will be well, God willing.

I know just how you feel. I keep thinking of all the things that can go wrong but then i tell myself- those things arent supposed to happen and i have a good surgeon who will take good care of me with Gods help.

I have a three hr class to go to tomorrow. Kind of excited for it????

I so relate to what you are feeling. I have had numerous operations in my life but this is the first one I have been really worried about. But in more logical moments I realise how lucky I am to be in the financial position to even be able to get this op. I think the journey will be hard but worthwile.

Scared?

Naw.

I'm petrified.

But not over the bypass surgery. That's the one thing that doesn't scare me. I've got a great surgeon and his staff are excellent.

What scares the crap out of me is how close I came to leaving this world way before my time. Heart problems were coming. Many other surgeries were coming, too....knee & hip replacements....sooner than later.

Petrified that I'd not be here to become a grandfather one day.

Nope....the bypass is going to be a smooth process. It's how close I came to losing so much that occupies my nightmares.

Prayers are what led me to this procedure. Prayers helped guide me to my surgeon. I know that this bypass is a tool that is being provided to help.

I'm sure I'll have the jitters just prior to going under the anesthesia. That's normal stuff. Had the same jitters with 2 hernia surgeries and an ankle repair over the past few years.

No biggie....you wake up all fixed and just have to recover.

The good thing is that we'll not be recovering from some type of injury but the planned bypass work.

This bypass is a good surgery that's been done since the 50's.

We'll all be up walking the day after and every day for the rest of our longer lives.

No fears over the surgery and the changes that come with it. The fears are only if I'd been stubborn and stayed on the course I was on.

Life with morbid obesity isn't a long one.

Taking the actions we all are taking will give us decades of high quality life that we'd not otherwise have.

Things are going to be great for us all.....and for out families, too.

You know @@Dub I had to come back and reread this because it's quality advice on how to think "right" about why we're all getting this done.

In fact, I'm going to print it out and bring it with me to the hospital.

It's natural to let the fears and doubts creep in as your date looms nearer. Thanks for putting it all in perspective!

Had my last weigh in and class. Scared the crap out of me and i told them i was backing out. Since then ive had a chacge of heart and im gonna go for it. Im feelingore at peace in my heart. I hope im making the right decision. Right or wrong- its on!

@@Dub Wow! Thank you for your wise words. I'm scheduled for July 29th and am getting more and more scared as the date approaches. My dad died of a massive heart attack at 44 and that is my motivator, I just needed someone to remind me of that.

It's scary stuff that we are all trying to get ahead of with these surgical solutions.

Scary stuff indeed.

We'll all make it......... and if we do our part we'll do great !!!!!

Dub,

Thanks for sharing that. I needed to read that as my surgery date approaches. Thanks, sir!

One of my friends had the sleeve a little more than two weeks ago. I asked him on his two-week anniversary if he regretted anything. He said -- waiting so long to do the surgery. He has lost more than 30 lbs in his two weeks. He feels great. His pain went away two days after he came home from the hospital, and it wasn't that bad to begin with. He has been a huge support for me, emailing me almost every day with tips and things he's discovering as he goes through this process. He sent me his entire pre-op and post-op eating plan. His advice: It's so worth it!

My PCP said to stop thinking about the surgery when I start getting afraid. Just put it out of my mind and think about how much healthier I'll be afterward. She's totally right.

WE CAN DO THIS!

So I paid for my surgery and hospital fee! Omg this just got real! My surgery is set for Monday 11am but have to be there @8! I've been super emotional and praying everything will go great! I have so much to live for! My son, my family, & accomplishing my dreams! I know this is for me and my future! This is life changing! I'm nervous, scared, excited, & trying to stay positive!

I keep thinking of how amazing my life and health will be after its al done. Best of luck to everyone!
