How common is a Hiatal Hernia?

Hi guys. I'm new here and was wondering just how common is a Hiatal Hernia? I've been obese most of my life and the doctor office keeps telling me I probably have it but I cannot help but worry because without a hernia I cannot afford the surgery...

So the doctor is basically charging your insurance company $15k to repair your hernia and then, while he's in there perform the VSG??

....oh I just read the 2nd post up... :-)

I found out I had a HH pre op as well. Dr Holden at KBI did my EGD test to see if I had one to qualify for MBA program where it would cost me less since I was a cash patient. So happy to have that option. My sleeve surgery was 10/27/14 with Dr Kim and I'm over joyed at my success. I've lost 117 lbs.

I'm kaiser, I do have a hernia, I've had an EDG just because I need one about 6 months ago.

I'm 326 pounds, I'm scared as hell about this. My pulmonologist is the one referring me. She sent me a text today, said referral is done. ????

Viv...it's a major surgery, but if you follow your surgeons directions, you'll be just fine! It's an amazing journey. At my highest weight a few months before surgery, I was 332 lbs. It's been one year and I've lost 127 lbs so far. You can do this!
