Barret's and the sleeve

Hi all! During my EGD it was determined that I have Barrett's esophagus. I don't go back to the surgeon to discuss until right before surgery (which has not yet been scheduled due to insurance switching). Does anyone have experience with Barrett's and the sleeve, should I switch to the bypass? I don't want to regret my choice in surgery.

      Most surgeons won't perform the sleeve on anyone with Barrett's. Gastric bypass is the preferred surgery for someone with that condition, from what I gather. However, you definitely want to discuss it

      I agree with the above posts. Barret's esophagus is a contraindication for Sleeve Gastrectomy. If I were in your shoes, I'd opt for Gastric Bypass.

    Sorry, I just saw that you don't have Barrett's and that you have GERD. My advice is still the same. GERD caused my Barrett's and I didn't even have signs of GERD to begin with.

    Having Barretts , well most surgeons prefer to do the bypass because its better..i took the bypass had no problems yet.been 2yrs now.

    I had gerd for many years and was on a strong dose of nexium for several years. I had a band removed and a sleeve and hernia repair in June and o have had no gerd symptoms.
