Psychologist appointment?

I went to the psychologist and he didn't clear me to have the surgery yet he wants me to go back in a week to see a therapist and to go back to him in three weeks after I have my sleeping test done... I'm so mad I thought I was only going to need one app but he said I'm a little depressed and he wants to see me again!! Has anyone gone to the psychology more than once?

OK... I am not saying this is AT ALL the case with you... but from his perspective, he may have concerns about you following through with all the requirements. Only because you said that you asked for

I didn't get cleared right away by the psychologist at my surgeon's office, either. I have depression, but for me, the concerns were more due to my deep-seated need to be perfect (an "all-or-nothing"

  • As far as I know - as the patient - you have a right to read any report they write. So Lisa - you should ask your surgeon for a copy. Same thing scarlep - when your psychologist writes it - ask for a

Can you not request a new one? Or find one on your own?

Hey scarlep... The first time i went to the psychologist (April 23) I got denied as well due to being depressed. He told me he couldn't clear me just yet. He recommended i see another therapist in the same practice. I saw that therapist for one session (May 15) ... I saw the first psychologist again today and got cleared. But I'm also in a different state of mind then I was back in April... You have to think positive... All the negative energy you are surrounded by TRY YOUR BEST TO GET RID OF!!!! Only you can make the changes necessary in your life!!!

Ask your surgeon for another recommendation... I asked mine and she told me that if this Pysch didn't clear me she had another she can recommend

I wanted to go to another gynecologist but he didn't have an appointment till mid August that's why I went to him but I will call my NUT tomorrow and speak to her to see what she tells me , idk why hes making it so hard the only thing getting me depressed it's being obese and not healthy

Wusa girl Wusa.... What i have learned about this journey is that everything is a process... If that other dr doesn't have an appt until August well then take that appt and wait til that date... You still have other requirements that you have to fulfill... If the pysch is the last one then so be it

I got denied for an endoscopy twice because my blood sugar was too high and the dr didn't wanna put me under an anesthesia

It's a all a process of what's to come... It will work itself out... Believe me

When did you start?? When do you think you will get surgery done??

My therapist has been a WAY bigger help to me than even my NUT. I didn't realize how desperately I needed to talk to a therapist and thought I would just go once. You do need to have a decent relationship with them, so if you don't like him, perhaps try another one, but don't give up on seeing them. It makes a big difference - even if you don't want to see that right now (I know I didn't). Remember they see a LOT of us patients and know what the struggles are and can help with those before and after they get here. I would encourage you to give it a chance.

Y'all ladies are encouraging me to reshedule my appt. :)

Yea that's true it wasn't bad talking to him but it was weird hahah, well I'm going to give it a try and see what he says if he doesn't clear me on the next visit im going to ask for another psychologist

@@scarlep - Oh it was definitely weird the first time and I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to cancel - and I actually like my therapist! :) It is an uncomfortable situation to talk but it will help. If nothing else just to learn their tips and tricks for dealing with post-op emotions and helping you identify your triggers for wanting to eat.

I think everyone is nervous about seeing a psychologist. I know I was! But it's for our mental stability. This surgery is a very emotional process. Don't stress over it. You will be ok. Like I told my psychologist "Are any of us really normal?!"
