Gerd and hernia repair

Recommended Posts

Anyone have gerd and hernia repair during sleeve surgery? How were your symptoms after? I am currently on nexium and surgeon said I will possibly/ likely be on it after the repair as well. My gerd symptoms are fine on the nexium as long as I don't eat before I go to sleep.

I had a hernia repair at the same time as surgery and have no GERD. But the hernia was news to me as I had no symptoms prior to surgery either. The surgeon tried to talk me into bypass as she believed I would have problems, but they haven't appeared. :D

I had hiatal hernia same time as vsg and I had gerd really bad. Especially at night I would wake with mouth full of acid....6 weeks post op and dr is weaning me off nexum(currently takin 20mg) and no problems...will know a couple of weeks from now if I can quit it forever. I think if I have to take for rest of life I'm okay with that. post-252202-14339541714101_thumb.jpg

My surgeon and gi told me that even with hernia that based on endoscopy there is no reason for me to get bypass over sleeve and I have a large hernia with symptoms. You should be fine!

When I originally had my band done back in 2012 the surgeon told me that he thought my GERD was related to a hernia and if it was when he got in there he was going to fix it. It was and he did.

I had a revision to a sleeve 2 weeks ago and have had no problems with GERD. None since the hernia repair.

I have a very severe hiatal hernia with Gerd although I didn't really notice the symptoms before I had my endoscopy. I am now 10 days post op and take omeprazole daily. I have not had any Gerd although my surgeon thought I would.

I had GERD about 6 years ago, had an Endoscopy and did not have a hernia at that point. I I treated with Nexium for three months and was good for a few years.

I started back on Nexium about a year before my surgery which was 2/2/2015. I had another Endoscopy in January and now had a hernia. It was repaired when I sleeved. I came off the Nexium on 4/30/2015 and have had no symptoms since.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
