Can someone explain to me how to add a friend? Can it be done on mobile apportion do you have to be on a desktop? I can't seem to figure out where on the app to do it. Thank you!

You just click on their name and it will take you to their profile and click add friend.

Update: I did try it with app and that doesn't work however if you click on the person and then in top left hand corner click the menu thing.. open in browser then go to profile and there is the add friend option.
