Hello All,

I new and this is my first post. I had vsg just 2 weeks today. I have messed up. I ate about 6 pieces of chicken chewed very well!! And about 3 bites of quacadilla before I felt the pain of my stomach. Am I going to stretch my very new pouch??? I'm really scared. TIA

It's a good thing that you are scared and in pain. Maybe that will stop you from doing that again. It's not the stretching you need to worry about at this point. It's the blowing out your staple line and dying from sepsis.

Didn't your surgeon provide you with a detailed postop diet plan? I've never heard of being OK'd for solids so soon

Damn! I was still on liquids at 2 weeks. No wonder you're hurting.

Yeah, what @@Kindle said.

Did you truly eat six pieces of chicken? How is that even possible? I couldn't eat that much and I am 3 1/2 months post op, I'm not sure people even farther out from surgery could consume that much. As Kindle said you need to be very careful this close to surgery that you don't injure your staple line, the complications from that would be terrible.

I was thinking she meant 6 bites, not pieces. I am approved to be on soft foods at 3 weeks. liquids 2 weeks, pureed 1 week, then at 3 weeks soft foods post op.

When I say "pieces" of chicken I guess that would be bites, smaller than a dime size. Yes, I did receive post instructions and "diet" but I guess I didn't realize the mental part of this process.

I called my surgeons office and already spoke with them as to what to watch for if it was to affect my staple line, and I don't have any of those symptoms.

Has nobody else messed up? Am I the only one? I'm not calling it a mistake because I consciously made the choice to put it in my mouth, I just needed some help.

I suppose it's a matter of motivation. No, when it came to my pre and postop diet instructions, I did not mess up. (And this involved over a month of full liquids and 2 months before eating something like chicken) My health and proper healing were too important to me. Once you get farther out, bad choices simply result in no weight loss or weight gain, but this early on bad choices can result in very serious consequences.

You can do a search for "cheat" to find many others that chose not to follow instructions. But then check out the complications subforum to help motivate yourself not to do it again.

Posts like this will always get a polarized response. The best I can suggest is to follow your plan and don't get so independant. The stages are established through observations on tens of thousands of bariatric patients and what actions cause horrid complications that could have been avoided. Eating food too soon is one of them. Your tummy has been brutalized. Your brain did not get the memo. That is common. Head hunger is a crazy-maker. Please take care of yourself.

Everyone messes up at some point. I'm sure that you are not alone. I had a scrambled egg 2 days before I should have. I don't get hungry except in my brain. I have to be very aware of what I am doing so that I don't mindlessly put things in my mouth. Don't best yourself up. Pick yourself up dust yourself off and stay strong. Good luck

Yup! I blew it in week 2 post op. The liquids were getting on my nerves, I was sad, crying everyday so I had a tablespoon of Peanut Butter even though I wasn't supposed to yet. But the risk of busting my staples or having a leak made me get it together. I went through too much with this surgery and paid to much money to blow it. So you're not alone. Just be careful for the reasons already mentioned.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
