Does your surgeon...?

Does your surgeon require you to take a laxative the day before surgery? Mine says to do a clear liquid diet the day before and at noon take a bottle of citrate of magnesia

I didn't have a pre-op diet or a bowel prep for my sleeve surgery, but I did have to do a bowel prep for my hysterectomy years ago.

I'm also doing a 2 week pre-op diet

Nope. I did a two week liquid diet.

I just did the 2 week liquid diet, then only Clear liquids for the last day. But every surgeon is different. Follow your doctor's advise!

Nope. I think his philosophy for sleeve patients is that he's not going anywhere near their intestines, so no need to clean them out. No liquid diet either -- just two weeks of high protein/low carb to shrink the liver beforehand.

Oh yes, I will most definitely follow his orders!

some folks say the 1 or 2 weeks of liquid diet prior to surgery is your bowel prep.

I didn't have the pre-op diet, but I was on all liquids post op. Trust me when I say it is NOTHING like the bowel prep you do when you have to drink a bottle or citrate mangnesia

I'm NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight...period! Yea!!!

Yes, I was asked to take a laxative before surgery. My surgery was a Sunday and I was asked to take a laxative with Water on Saturday night with water and consume nothing but water after that. I actually took a laxative on Friday, before my Saturday morning flight - just to make sure.

As the others have said, each surgeon has his/her own requirements.
