What did you do while waiting for surgery?

I've read a lot of reviews about the surgeon my MD has referred me to, and a lot of them said he requires you to lose 10% of your weight before you can start the bariatric surgery process. Did your surgeon have a similar requirement? What diet did you do while waiting?

Back when I had gastric bypass surgery in 2003, there was no psychological counseling, supervised weight loss program, nutritionist, or anything... just the surgeon. What did I do? I freaking binged ate every day the week prior to my surgery knowing that I could never eat those foods or this way again... pizza, McDonalds, gelato... gross!

Kids, don't try this at home!

I was self pay at Obesity Control Center in TJ. I was required to lose 5% of my body weight on my 2 week preop diet. I was so nervous I wouldn't lose enough that I started 2 days early. 3 Protein shakes/day plus unlimited leafy green veggies. I ended up losing 22 pounds instead of the required 12 pounds.

In the 3 months between scheduling and having surgery the only thing I did different was wean off caffeine. Other than that, just ate and drank like normal. No binges or food funerals and no "practicing" being sleeved. The chewing, sipping, protein and Water all came postop.
