I started eating liquid Soup ( cheesy broccoli) 5 days post op, I was also starving, when I went for my post op check at 11 days I told him, all about it, he asked if I had thrown up, and I said no at all, and he said, then your stomach is healed enough to handle it, he also said, I was gonna be able to eat sense I haven't had a fill yet, and stay with soft foods, so I have had Mac n cheese, refried Beans, mashed potatoes ect, anything I could chew into liquid form and swallow. I'm not saying it's ok for you to do what I did, I am in no way a doctor, I'm just letting you know what I did/ am doing???????????? you could always call your Drs office and tell them what's going on and see if they will give you any ideas as to what you can eat, good luck

You really need to follow your doctor's orders. My surgeon allowed me to advance past the liquid stage within several days. In fact, his orders were Clear Liquids on days 1 & 2. May advance to full liquids on day 2 if tolerated. Days 3 & 4 were full liquids and on day 5 I was allowed soft foods. Having said that, you need to understand that your doctor knows your situation better than anyone else and has reasons for the orders he has given you. If you're really uncomfortable, give him a call and tell him. Perhaps he will give you the ok to advance sooner or at least help you understand why he doesn't feel that's safe for you, if that's the case.

I'm 11 days post op and started with blended Soups at 4 days post op. i quickly moved on to purees and soft foods as I haven't had any problems tolerating anything. I'm not saying its right for everyone, but it is working for me. I'd be happy to never see another Protein shake as long as I live.

Good luck.

The more heavier Soups, like cream of broccoli, etc, really helped me....even when I was allowed to move onto mushies, I still preferred the heavy soups, and then vegetarian chili, etc.

But then nothing is going to curb the hunger/cravings for me until I started getting fills, and then it took a few before it finally kicked in...I even gained weight between my first and 2nd fill......AKA "Bandster Hell", or as I like to call it the "White Knuckle Club"...just have to hang on!

yes I am afraid it's part of the process to be hungry until you get a fill. But, some Dr's don't restrict food as much as others. Your Doctor is the best one to ask about progressing to something more filling. but I do remember being on liquids a long time before getting any "real" food. but I survived. It was tough though .

I'm not asking for "permission" I'm asking for suggestions from people that have been in the same situation. Thank you.

Apologies if you thought I was being rude. Sometimes I can be a little direct. It comes from being on this site for quite a long time and making certain presumptions occasionally. I don't want you to feel threatened by asking questions so please don't stop asking. It's how we learn and help others.

Thank you for the apology and no hard feelings. I planned on calling my doctor on Monday but wanted to know if something could tie me over the weekend. I ended up having Tomato Soup and YUM!! No problems whatsoever. Thanks everyone for the help. It's appreciated.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
