Psych evals

I'm like spazIng out over here wondering what I should expect at my psych eval to get this surgery approved. Does anyone have any information they could share on what happens during this particular part of the process?

I was watching a show lastnight called "My Weight is Killing Me" and one of the females got denied because the psychiatrist said she "presented with depression" and "wasn't ready for surgery" ALL BECAUSE she cried a little during the interview...

Is this true that we can't have any emotion during these interviews or we get denied???

My psych eval was denied the first time and I had many conflicting thoughts. He thought I needed to work on my snacking before he would approve. The second visit about 5 weeks later went much smoother and he had no problem signing off.

any psychologist who diagnoses someone with depression based on crying in a session sucks. so guessing you didnt see whatever diagnostic measure he used to determine her depression. those shows are heavily edited. depression presents with very specific symptoms. while excessive or inappropriate crying might be one of them, its not how a mental health professional would diagnose it.

anyone with untreated depression should not be approved for surgery. depression should be treated and managed before someone attempts life changing surgery.

expressing emotion in at the psych eval is normal and natural. you should strive to be honest and your true self at the eval. just be who you are and answer the questions as truthfully as possible. the therapist is there to help you.
