Fatty Liver Disease

Hi all. I found out I had fatty liver disease when I first met with my surgeon at the consultation for VSG. Anyway now I have been so worried that in not knowing I had this, maybe I have worsened the condition. She made me aware because she saw it on my medical chart from 3 years ago. The doctor who ordered the MRI and found it originally, never bothered to tell me. Now I am paranoid about liver cirrhosis or that I may have really messed up my liver by more years of eating badly. I have a ultra sound scheduled Tuesday so we shall see. Anyone experience anything like this? Thanks

ALL overweight people have a fatty liver. I was obese for almost thirty years and ate badly the entire time. My last labs were textbook perfect - everything well within normal limits. Usually losing weight improves or eliminates fatty liver but I don't know if that is the same as 'fatty liver disease'. Talk to your doctor about your specific concerns and ask what the diagnosis specifically means to you, and if WLS will help.

The New York Times, Saturday, June 14, 2014 had an article about the increase in this disease, caused by obesity. The good news is that the situation can be improved with weight loss and exercise. I have known that I had a "fatty liver" for many years, I guess that shows how dumb I can be. Anyway, we are both on the road to recovery!

I also had fatty liver and it went away with surgery and weight loss, so try to relax and after you know the test results. From there you will take action to improve it.

Let us know what happens.

Take care.
