Omg I finally got my ins approval today so my surgery date of June 26th is a go. I'm really starting to get scared now. I'm afraid of how much pain it will be. I can handle some pain. I have many tattoos and my eyebrow pierced but I've never had a kid. Trying to find out how bad it really hurts. Can someone give me a comparison to how much pain they had?

I think a lot will depend on whether your surgery is open or laparoscopic. I have a very high tolerance for pain and my surgery was lap. I actually experienced very little pain from the surgery itself. The worst pain I experienced was the gas pain. This can be alleviated more quickly if you are up and walking as much as possible in those first couple of days. The more you move around, the faster the gas moves out! :)

I only used the pain medicine for the first two days in the hospital. By the third day, I was using just liquid Tylenol. My friend, who had open RNY, experienced a bit more pain and used the pain meds for almost a week.

Good luck to all of you with upcoming surgeries. You'll do great! ;)

Healthyme, can we take chewable gas x? I get gas bubbles in my chest nice in a while so I kind of like having the gas x t relieve it.

Yes; most people prefer the strips that dissolve on the tongue, but either one works. Also, I have a bottle of Beano in my purse, my desk at work and my kitchen. If you eat Beans or gassy vegetables, just chew a couple of them when you take your first bite. This will keep the gas that these can cause at bay. :)

I really didn't have any pain from the surgery itself, and i also had to get a hiatal hernia removed during my surgery. The only pain i had was gas which can be helped by walking as much as possible, and GasX Thin Strips....u will be just fine...I'm proud of us ladies....i cant wait for all of us to be on the losers side together

I'm 4 days out. Not real "Pain" per se... the stomach was bloated and uncomfortable. I had a pretty bad hiatal hernia repaired and the doctor said that would cause a little more pain/pressure than if I'd just had the bypass. Like the other people here, just feel a lot of pressure in my chest from the gas. Had a scare at the hospital when I said pressure and chest in the same sentence. Immediately had a cardiologist on me, EKG, cardiac blood draw and chest xray. All was fine.

The closest thing non-surgical I can relate it to is when I've had very severe heartburn -- the kind that makes it hard to breathe deep or when I've had pretty bad bronchitis and my chest just ached. No stomach / ab pain at all.

Still having some discomfort in my left shoulder but this has not been "painful" at all. Don't let the thought of a few days of pain deter you. I'm already down 10 pounds and I'm feeling fine. Laying around a lot, getting up and walking at least every hour and drinking all I can to stay hydrated.

You can do this!

Congrats!

From one tattoo chick to another, I think you'll do fine :)

Just don't wait for it to get intolerable. Once you start playing catch up with the pain, it's challenging to get it under contol. Stay ahead of it. Ask for pain meds if you're hurting. There are no medals for sucking it up and being miserable.

I've had more than my fair share of elective surgeries. I've learned my lesson :P

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
